ON Saturday, June 16, the second round of Okehampton Club Championships was completed and despite some testing weather conditions some good scores were achieved.
Last year’s champion Jack Whiteway managed to retain his title, scoring a steady gross 70 on both rounds.
Lee Carey was second with a gross 140 (73 + 70), Gareth Holt was third with a gross 144 (70 + 74) and fourth place was taken by Kevin Cornwall with a gross 145 (75 + 70).
The winner of the Hutchings Cup for the best nett score over two rounds was Alan Jeffrey with nett 130 (66 + 64) on the back nine from, in second Toby Gostling also with nett 130 (66 + 64).
Ian Drayner was third with nett 134 (64 + 70) and Steve Penna was fourth with a nett 135 (69 + 66). The John Leonard tankard for the best gross score for the over 50s was won by Gareth Holt.
The Senior Club Championships were also took place and the winner was David Williams with a gross 78, Paul Fowler was second with gross 82 and Andrew Shapland was third with gross 83.
David Williams also had the best nett score of 69, Rob Curtis was second with a nett 70 and Andy Madgwick was third also with a nett 70.
The Ladies section played an individual stableford for the presidents Salver and the winner of Division One and the salver was Penny Deakin with 34 points and Sue Stanbury was second with 31 points.
Division Two was won by Lin Atkinson with 33 points and Elaine Marwood was second. Lorna Evans was the winner of the nine-hole competition with 20 points narrowly beating Jane Warren with 19 points.
