A MAN who lives near Crediton has grown giant sunflowers in his garden again for his twin granddaughters.

Adrian Iles told the Courier how Sky and Sienna, who are both eight years old and visit their granddad regularly, “love to watch them grow”.

The sunflowers currently measure just over seven feet tall (around 2.1 metres). Last year they reached the dizzying heights of eight feet and eight inches (around 2.6 metres).

“My mum always plants them in her greenhouse,” Mr Iles said.

“Great-grandma plants them in her greenhouse to start them off, and granddad plants them in the garden.

“They haven't grown quite so high this year, but have lots of flowers.”

Mr Iles also grows giant pumpkins, which won him and his granddaughters a prize at the Tedburn St Mary show last year.

He keeps the seeds from the largest sunflower and pumpkin to grow more the following year.
