THE 1st Crediton Scouts have teamed up with Sustainable Crediton’s Pollinator Group to encourage more bees and butterflies to the town.

Armed with trowels and a can-do attitude, the Scouts met with Esther Mann from the Pollinator Group to plant pollinator-friendly flowers in the flowerbeds in Newcombes Meadow.

Scout Matthew Harris (12), said: “The whole troop had a blast planting seeds to grow new flowers for the town.”

The group then learned all about the importance of pollinators to our environment during an informative talk back at their hut by Esther.

Inspired by the session, the scouts then went on to plant a series of flowering seeds outside their hut in recycled tyre plant pots.

Scout Hugh Swain (11), who describes himself as a Landscore eco-warrior, said: “We planted our own pollinator-friendly plants outside our scout hut. Pollinators help us be sustainable in our everyday life.”

“It’ll be really nice to finally have a pop of colour outside the hut when the seeds flower”, added Finlay Cavender (13).

The Scouts group meets each Wednesday for young people aged 10-14.
