Okehampton Seconds 12 - Crediton Quins 27

FOR the second week running Crediton Rugby Club sent a team to Okehampton and certainly the Quins were intent on emulating the First team result of the previous week and at the same time return to winning after the disappointing defeat to North Tawton.

At whatever level, games against Okehampton are always competitive and this one was no exception.

Both sides went head on at each other throughout the game, no quarter asked or given.

The difference in style was noticeable, the home side very forward orientated and any ball to the backs was quickly brought back into the pack!

We did have the edge in the scrum but the lineouts were something of a lottery at times.

The Quins always looked threatening with ball in hand and whilst the home defence was pretty solid, for the second week running we threw away a number of scoring opportunities.

Handling errors and penalties conceded at crucial times gave Okehampton an easy exit on several occasions.

Our forwards and backs linked well for our four tries and we ran out very deserving winners with a crucial bonus point.

Will Crang took one for the team with a yellow card after a succession of penalties whilst Okes had two yellows for high tackles.

Crang, together with Matt Pearce, Harvey Murfitt and Joe Dodge put in huge performances in a local derby that that did not disappoint the spectators although for the second Saturday in a row we have managed to put one over on Okehampton.

We now must focus attention on the game at Exeter Engineers on Saturday if we are to keep hold of top spot in the league.

The scorers were Bobby Jenkin with two tries, Ben Baxter and Joe Dodge one apiece with Tom Ronchetti adding two conversions and a penalty.
