STEVE Jones, Allan Gibb, John Harry and Pete Sheppard have brought back the first piece of silverware of the year to Crediton Bowling Club.

Last Saturday, July 27 they defeated all other entrants to win the Madeira Coronation Cup 2024.

Captain Allan Gibb said it was a great tournament played in excellent weather and he was very pleased to come away with the trophy as the standard of the 10 other local teams was extremely high. Crediton’s margin of victory was 19 shots.

Crediton Bowling Club also has its first representatives through to the national finals to be held later in the month at Leamington Spa.

Liz Smerdon, Amy Bond and Helen Ellis have qualified in the ladies triples. In the final of the Devon qualifier the trio defeated Britton Park from Teignmouth.

Amy Bond has also got through to the final of the club ladies championship.

She will be playing Jackie Hemings Anthony on either Saturday, August 31 or Sunday, September 1.

In the men’s over 60s league, the A team is doing its best to hold on to the title it won last year.

Although losing 6-2 to Exonia they then followed this up with 6-2 victories over Madeira A and Princes A and now lie fifth in division one.

The B team could be making a late charge for promotion from division four with outstanding victories of 6-2 over Morchard Bishop A and Belmont A and an even better 8-0 victory over Exonia C.

They are up to third with four matches of the season remaining.

The C team are still in the mix for promotion from division four but have now dropped to fourth after 6-2 defeats to both Taunton Deane and Honiton B.

The friendly teams suffered two defeats at the hands of Bitton Park and Bradninch but have also had victories against Bideford Victoria Park, Hatherleigh, Tiverton Park and Morchard Bishop.
