IT is often said that you can wait ages for a bus and then two come along in quick succession.

This was the case last weekend, September 7 and 8, as not one, but two, Crediton teams won County Honours.

On Saturday it was the turn for Amy Bond, Helen Ellis and Liz Smerdon to become the Ladies Triple Champions.

They had already qualified as one of two teams to represent Devon in the National Finals at Leamington Spa. Here they successfully reached the quarter finals until their opponents scored six shots in the penultimate end to squash their chances of reaching the semifinal.

Taking the County title at least made up some of the disappointment.

The following day at Topsham it was the turn of the men to win the Unbadged Triples.

Dave Carpenter, Steve Witcombe and Graham Tucker won both their semi-final in the morning and the final in the afternoon.

It was a tense affair as with two ends to go the Crediton trio were four shots down.

A two on the penultimate end followed by a very well put together three on the final end saw them victorious by 18-17.

The beauty of this win is that Steve only joined Crediton this year and has fitted in so well to our Club.

After trying for 23 years in other parts of the country this is his first County title.

Dave is a true stalwart of the Club and is Bar Manager with Graham being the Maintenance Officer and has only been bowling for three or four years either side of the Covid epidemic.

These successes followed a trip to the Isle of Wight made by 43 members and other halves which will be reported on next week along with details of Finals weekend.

The season is slowly drawing to an end with Aussie Pairs being played on Saturday, September 14 and friendlies at home on September 17, 19 and 21.
