FOR the second match of the new season Sandford Football Club travelled to play City Raiders at the King George V Playing Fields at Countess Wear, Exeter.
In atrocious conditions both teams struggled from the start with their footing and the speed of the ball on the wet grass.
Sandford soon got into their stride and, after six minutes, Kieran Stanbury scored to give the visitors a 0-1 lead.
After 29 minutes, centre back Harry Stoneman made it 0-2.
Sandford were well in control of the game and just before half-time captain Sam Reeve made it 0-3.
All the time the rain was pouring down.
Both teams took a shorter than usual half-time break wanting to get on with the game in such awful conditions.
At 13 minutes into the second half Dom Cochran made it 0-4 to Sandford.
The visitors were now in complete control of the game and, on 77 minutes, Sam Reeves made it 0-5.
One of Sandford’s subs Baz Clark then made it 0-6 to the visitors.
As the game was reaching the end Dom Cochran made it 0-7 to Sandford.
Both sides played well in the conditions but after two games the Sandford side are beginning to work well together and are playing some lovely football.
It’s looking good for the future. Well done lads.
This Saturday the "ford" are home to Whipton and Pinhoe, kick-off 3pm, spectators welcome.
