STAFF at Queen Elizabeth’s School in Crediton have praised students who received their A-level results today, August 15.
More than 90 per cent of those who applied for undergraduate degree courses have had their places confirmed at their first-choice university.
Many will soon be heading off to universities across the country, with students taking up places “from Plymouth to Durham, York and everywhere in between”.
The school described student course choices after A-levels as “diverse” this year, ranging across academic disciplines from medical sciences to the arts and humanities.
Practical and applied degree training courses, such as musical theatre, physiotherapy and sports coaching, have also stayed popular with QE sixth-formers.
A good number of other students plan to travel, go into employment or have gained apprenticeship places locally.
After gaining top grades in sociology, theatre studies and history, Head Boy James Webster has secured a place on a competitive acting coaching programme and will apply to drama school next year.
“The support and teaching I have had here in the sixth form has been excellent,” he said.
“The teachers at QE are brilliant and I’ve had so many opportunities to develop my confidence, academic and practical skills over the course of my A-levels.”
Elise Williams will take up a degree in interior design next year at the University of Norwich, Maddie Singleton and Sophie Wallis are both going to study psychology in Bath, Olivia Howard will be studying marketing at the University of Plymouth, and Sophie Hartshorne intends to take up an apprenticeship in law or business.
Theo Whish will take up a place at the University of Cardiff to study law while Barney Cockings is moving to Japan to follow a languages and general studies course before his archaeology and history degree.
Headteacher Paula Smith said: “It has been a wonderful morning celebrating the achievements of our remarkable Queen Elizabeth’s students.
“I am so proud of each and every one of them.
“This year’s A-level results reflect not only the talent and commitment of our students but also the unwavering support from our dedicated staff and parents.
“It’s always emotional when students come to the end of their journey with us, but I know those leaving us today are well-prepared for their next steps!”
CEO of the Ted Wragg Trust, of which Queen Elizabeth’s School is a part, Moira Marder said: “Many congratulations to all the QE students who have achieved such an amazing set of A-level results.
“It has been a momentous day and it’s clear how hard both students and staff have worked to achieve such a fantastic set of results.
“Whether students are going on to further study, apprenticeships or delving into the world of work, I wish them all the very best for the future.
“We are so proud of you all.”
