THE former committee of Crediton Food Festival has donated £500 to Crediton Foodbank.

The funds were left over after it closed its bank account and handed over the running of the festival to the town council.

Ruth Beckley, the former treasurer, said the committee hopes the donation will “help many local people”.

Crediton Foodbank Co-ordinator Helen Moores thanked the committee for the cash gift, which she described as “extremely kind”.

Management of the annual food festival was officially transferred to Crediton Town Council on February 12 at a drop-in session at the library for people to hear about plans and share ideas for this year’s event.

Founded in 2009, the festival sees stalls offer a wide variety of local food and refreshments in the Town Square and on Market Street.

This year, the event will take place on Saturday, July 12. There will be a children’s entertainer and medical herbalist Anne Stobart will lead a walk around the town, among other attractions.

If you would like to operate a stall, you can find application forms on Crediton Town Council’s website by visiting: crediton.gov.uk/News-Events/Stallholder-bookings.

Crediton Foodbank will be present at Crediton Town Council’s events this spring and summer.

Other events the council is hosting this year are a cream tea on Thursday, May 8 and a picnic in the park on Saturday, May 10 to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, and the Big Boniface Bash on Sunday, June 8.

Crediton Foodbank provides emergency food for local people in crisis in the town and surrounding villages.

A registered charity, it relies completely on donations.

It hands out thousands of food parcels each year and has donation collection boxes at the Tesco and Morrisons supermarkets, the Spar and Tesco Express convenience stores and the Crediton Mole Avon branch.
