MID Devon residents’ council tax bills are set to go up from April.
The average “band D” household in the district will have to pay £2,521.17 for 2025/26, a 4.87 per cent rise.
The amount collected will be shared among Devon County Council, Mid Devon District Council, the police, fire service and parish or town councils.
Devon County Council will get the lion’s share. For a band D property, it will take £1,801.26 of the council tax bill from April, a 4.99 per cent rise.
Mid Devon District Council has also put up its share to £239.12, a 2.99 per cent hike, the maximum it can without a referendum.
The Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon and Cornwall will receive £288.20, also a 4.99 per cent rise, and the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Authority £104.68, a 5.02 per cent increase.
Parish and town councils take varying amounts. Crediton Town Council will charge band D residents £182.74 from April, a 4.98 per cent rise.
Elsewhere, Crediton Hamlets Parish Council will charge £19.09, Down St Mary £29.99, Newton St Cyres £41.90, Sandford £64.59, and Tiverton Town Council £77.73.
Crediton households can expect their total council tax bills to be £1,744 for band A properties (the cheapest), £2,616 for band D and £5,232 for band H (the most expensive).
Devon County Council is responsible for social care, road maintenance, schools, libraries and more.
Mid Devon District Council provides waste and recycling collections and services such as housing, planning and licensing.
Town and parish councils generally look after allotments, bus shelters, village halls, playgrounds and parks and signs and notice boards among other responsibilities.
