CHULMLEIGH College saw the return of a familiar part of the College tradition, the Harvest Festival, after much change during the past two years.

Due to the growth of the College, the usual two sittings in the Parish Church was increased to three this year.

Rebecca Huxtable, on behalf of the College, said: “This year the focus was on the theme of ‘hope’.

“We heard about hope in farming and in the work of the local foodbank.

“The senior prefect team provided the backbone of the service and we watched as an empty ‘hopeless’ table gained one tin, and gradually ended up full of food, full of hope.

“Our pupils behaved impeccably, with both of our guest speakers commenting on how impressive our pupils are and as Deputy Executive Headteacher Mr Payne mentioned, our pupils are our future hope.

“The College orchestra and choir provided the musical accompaniment, as well as performing some Ukrainian folk songs.

“Special thanks go to Briony Clinch from Lapford Foodbank who spoke about the work it does locally, Christine Chandler who gave our address and Mandy Fosbrooke from Morrisons in Tiverton, who provided a van to transport our food contributions, which went to Lapford Foodbank.”
