THE Mayor of Crediton, Cllr Liz Brookes-Hocking, officially opened a new Outdoor Classroom at Landscore Primary School on Tuesday, March 5.
The classroom at the Crediton school is a covered wooden structure with open sides. It has seating around three sides and has a central table.
Head Teacher Mrs Debbie Maine said that the PTA had raised the funds to pay for the structure.
She explained: “This was from a Santathon we held just before Christmas and also from a sponsored bounce held last year.
“We are grateful to a parent, Danny Harvey, who built it for us and we are all thrilled with it.
“We see it as a huge asset for us here. It took four years from the planning stage to it being built and already every classroom has used it.
“At lunchtime and on other occasions we use it as a quiet area for reading and we appreciate that we received a Library grant to bring books out on site.
“Our school grounds are open to the community after school hours and we encourage everyone to please take care of our new Outdoor Classroom.
“We ask that people look after it and treasure it for children and all to use for a long time to come.”
Before Mrs Brookes-Hocking cut a bright red ribbon to declare the Outdoor Classroom open, there was a countdown by the whole school.
