THERE was a special treat for a Crediton man who celebrated his 100th birthday.

Reg Nott was treated to a visit by members of Crediton Town Band, who not only played “Happy Birthday”, “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow”, “To Be a Farmer’s Boy” and a number of other tunes.

An Open House was held, planned by his children Angela, Ivor and Christine, with much help on the day from granddaughter's Helen and Michelle.

Reg enjoyed many wishes on the day from his other grandchildren stationed across the world in Portugal, Kuala Lumpur and Australia.

About 100 people visited during the day.

The visitors included ex school teachers from East Worlington School, where Reg was a school Governor for many years, helping to fight against its closure.

Reg was formerly a farmer at East Worlington.

Neighbours, Crediton Probus Club members and many good friends went along to help Reg enjoy his day.

Reg is the oldest member of Crediton Methodist Church and some church friends also visited during the day.

Being the last one of his generation in the family, many nephews and nieces, with family arrived to celebrate and recall fond memories with him.

In the afternoon Reg kept the company enthralled with several tales of his farm work during the war in North Devon and humorous tales and stories from his younger days as a farmer.

Refreshments flowed freely, along with cake made by a neighbour, and everyone was thrilled to have spent time with Reg, a most cheerful, vibrant 100 year old.

Reg gratefully received dozens of birthday cards and gifts as well as a card from King Charles and Queen Camilla.
