BEGINNING this March, Crediton Library will host a free Reminiscence Group chat on the second Friday of each month.
Part of the ongoing Reminiscence Project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund Dynamic Collections, these sessions will offer residents of any age the opportunity to share their memories in a group setting.
Each month will focus on a different theme, whether related to seasons, annual celebrations, or particular topics. The theme for March will be "Spring".
The library will provide hot tea, coffee and refreshments, as well as resources for people to engage with.
These may be Memory Boxes, books, photos or music. Attendees are also welcome to take along items related to the given theme.
Project Co-ordinator, Izzy FitzGerald said: “Reminiscing is such a brilliant way to connect with other people and can really improve mood and well-being.
"Sharing in a group setting will mean that one person’s memories may spark another’s. It can sometimes be surprising to hear about the differences and similarities in other people’s experiences.
"Opening with the theme of Spring, we’d love to hear about people’s memories of topics such as Easter, Mother’s Day, the best places to see the Daffodils and Snowdrops in bloom, the lambing season. So much happens at this time of year."
Izzy continued: “If sharing memories in a group does not appeal, we also hold one-to-one interviews with people, either in their own homes or at the library.”
The first group chat will take place on Friday, March 8 from 2pm-3pm. Free places can be booked via the library.
