CREDITON Foodbank has issued an urgent appeal for food donations.
It said its shelves “are looking particularly empty” ahead of the summer holidays.
“We need your help in making sure we can meet the needs of the community,” a spokesperson said.
“Although the summer holidays are always welcome, it can be very stressful for struggling families.
“Please help us restock our shelves to ensure we can help those who need it.
“In particular, we are looking for urgent donations of jars of instant coffee, small bags of sugar, tinned veg, tinned meat meals (including ham), washing-up liquid, laundry capsules, shampoo and toilet rolls.
“We deeply appreciate all donations made and couldn't serve our community without your support.”
If you would like to help the foodbank, you can drop donations in any of the supermarkets around Crediton.
Alternatively, you can meet its volunteers at Crediton Tesco Superstore on Saturday, July 27 between 8am and 4pm.
A registered charity, Crediton Foodbank provides emergency food for local people in crisis in the town and surrounding villages.
It operates from the Manse adjacent to Crediton Congregational Church and is run by two part-time coordinators and a team of volunteers.
It fed more than 5,000 people by providing over 2,000 food parcels worth an average of £50 each in 2023 – amounting to more than 75,000 meals.
Its volunteers gave more than 3,000 hours of their time to help their community last year.
