BROADBAND download speeds in Crediton are more than two and a half times slower than in Exeter and less than half the national average, government data shows.
The mean download speed in Crediton is 71.7 megabits per second (Mbps), compared with Exeter’s 192.1 and the national average of 150.82.
It is a similar story in the villages surrounding Crediton, with Bow, Lapford and Yeoford having mean download speeds of 66 Mbps.
Morchard Bishop, Copplestone and Newton St Cyres are served even worse at 64.8 Mbps.
It means Crediton is among the worst 30 per cent of areas in the UK – on a par with rural parts of Scotland and Wales.
The town does have good superfast availability at 97.8 per cent, but its gigabit coverage is poor at 55.7 per cent.
Full fibre broadband is however coming to more than 6,000 homes in Devon, including Copplestone, Chulmleigh and Tedburn St Mary, by the end of 2026.
