A GUIDED walk on Crediton and the Prayer Book Rebellion is set to be held.
On Saturday, June 22 1549, royalist forces attacked rebels occupying Crediton in the first major fight of the rebellion.
Local historian Tony Gale will lead the walk on the 475th anniversary of that skirmish, looking at what happened and how “Remember the barns of Crediton!” became a battle-cry as the conflict escalated.
“Most people know about the English Civil War,” Mr Gale said.
“But much less has been written about the Prayer Brook Rebellion. It was a major conflict in Devon and Cornwall a century earlier – and the first big confrontation between the opposing forces took place right here in Crediton.”
Participants should meet at Crediton museum at 7pm on Saturday, June 22 for the one-mile walk.
Spaces are limited. Tickets cost £5, or £2 for under 16s, and can be booked by emailing [email protected] or in person at the museum.
