HAVING been rained off the week before, the Crediton Netball League were delighted to hold the opening games of the 2024/25 Crediton Winter Netball League on Thursday, September 12.
Due to the addition of three new teams, the league had taken the decision to create two divisions for the first time.
In Division One, Foxes took on Sirens, Waie battled Ballers, and Silverton challenged Dynamos.
Foxes and Waie were triumphant, both scoring 55 goals to their opponent’s 35 and Silverton clinching the win by just two goals.
Division Two was just as exciting, with the first games of the three new teams Queens Gold, Queens Black and Winkleigh Wildcats.
One of those new teams, Winkleigh Wildcats, burst onto the scene in dramatic style with an emphatic win over Comets.
It was also great to see one of last year’s new teams, Pink Panthers, get their season off to a winning start against Queens Gold, as did Bluebirds against Queens Black!
It was particularly good to see both Queens teams bringing such a crew of supporters with them!
The second week of league games, once again saw all three courts in action with plenty of spectators enjoying the games.
In the first division matches, Foxes and Waie maintained their 100 per cent record, beating Sirens and Dynamos comfortably, however the match up between Ballers and Silverton was a far closer game with Silverton leading initially.
Ballers remained calm (with a spell of bouncy basketball taking over in the third Q!) and played consistently good netball to eke out a 10-goal lead in the final quarter.
In Division Two, Queens Black put up a brilliant display against Bluebirds, eventually succumbing by just the two goals, whilst Winkleigh Wildcats proved once again they will be a force to be reckoned with, boasting another strong scoreline against Queens Gold.
In the final match, Comets and Panthers enjoyed a competitive battle, for much of the game only a couple of goals in it.
Similarly to Ballers, Comets’ last quarter was their strongest and they were able to pull away and win by 11 in the end.
