THE date of this year’s Crediton Crunch 10-kilometre race has been announced.

Organised by the Crediton Running Network, the multi-terrain run will take place on Sunday, September 7 from 10.30am and start and finish at Queen Elizabeth’s School’s Barnfield campus.

The 10k is 90 per cent off-road on footpaths, mowed grassland, private farmland and quiet country roads. The route will be signposted with direction arrows and there will be kilometre distance markers.

Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third males and females across the finish line and for veteran age categories.

Each participant will receive a race medal and a goody bag. There will also be spot prizes in which your bib number is your raffle ticket.

Fancy dress is encouraged this year, and judges will award the Hannah Bennett Memorial Trophy to the runner with the best outfit.

Race HQ at QE’s Barnfield campus will be open to competitors from 8.30am on the day for number collection and bag drop. There is limited parking so parking elsewhere and public transport are recommended.

Last year’s Crediton Crunch 10k took place in May and raised £3,478 for charities Hospiscare and Age Concern Crediton.

As many as 180 people took part. The winner was 21-year-old former QE student Michael Lambourne of the City of York Athletics Club, who finished in 40 minutes flat.

The first woman to finish was 41-year-old Ellie Debenham of the South West Road Runners, with a time of 47 minutes and 30 seconds.
