Teignmouth Seconds 0 - Crediton Quins 69
TEIGNMOUTH RFC are struggling with their Second XV at the moment and actually conceded the game to us earlier in the week as they only had 11 players available.
They did invite us to travel down and, on the proviso that we loaned them some players, we could at least have a friendly. On the basis that it is better to play than not, the invitation was accepted.
None of us likes to see other Clubs struggling and whilst on the face of it a 69-0 scoreline offered little of value to either side, it is hoped that maybe more Teignmouthians will dust off their boots and start to play again.
With five Kirton players in their team, it was difficult for the home side to get any patterns going and it was equally difficult for us to build a routine.
Nonetheless we got the scoreboard moving on five minutes with a try and the score mounted as the game went on with tries being scored at regular intervals and from all over the pitch.
Forwards and backs linked well and the support play was excellent.
Teignmouth did have their moments as an attacking force and put us under pressure for long periods but our defence was seldom really troubled and despite the scoreline, they did defend well at times. Generally though, we were younger and fitter.
Of course, the game could not have gone ahead without the goodwill of some of the Crediton lads who volunteered to share the duties to play for Teignmouth so a huge vote of thanks to; Henry Howard, Tariq Sayers, Matt Pearce, Sam Rowe, Freddie Borthen, Callum Yeandle and Macca Jones.
We hope that Teignmouth can get some players back from injury soon to carry on their season!
For the record, tries were scored by Sam Westcott with three, his second successive hat-trick, Cameron Vooght touched down twice and there was a try apiece for Ben Harris, Henry Howard, Macca Jones, Joe Dodge, Sam Ronchetti and Freddie Borthen with Tom Ronchetti landing seven conversions.
On Saturday, the First XV and Quins XV have a rest day whilst the Thirds travel to Exeter Engineers Seconds and the Colts have a home game against Torquay.
