NORTH TAWTON RFC 55 - NEWTON ABBOT SECONDS 5

AFTER an excellent vice presidents lunch provided by Sarah Quick and her willing team of helpers, we went outside to get down to the real reason we were at Taw Meadow on a lovely sunny afternoon, to watch the in-form North Tawton side take on Newton Abbot Seconds in a match sponsored by an ex player, Rob Campbell.

Recent form suggested that it could be a comfortable win for the home side who have won their last four matches and the visitors yet to claim a victory this season.

As the score shows, this proved to be the case, North Tawton ran in nine tries. A brace for Simon Quick, Bill Sharp and Jack Phare, tries also for James Miller, Jack Davey and Dave Bourne with a single try in answer from the Newton team gave us the score of 55-5.

In truth, after Si Quick’s try in under five minutes, the tone was set for the afternoon, the home supporters spared the normal anxiety of can the Tawts get it over the line and in some ways enjoy a relaxing game in the comfort of a big lead.

That's not to take anything away from Newton Abbot who, it has to be said, in the face of a ticking scoreboard, never gave up.

The Tawton coaches were able to give some new players a run out, the recent feel-good factor around the club that comes with a few wins under the belt improves the player intake no end.

We might even get to having to fight for your place in the starting 15 after a slow start to the season, albeit against two of the top team.

North Tawton have got into a winning habit.

No game for the Tawts until November 16 now, when they travel the short distance to Okehampton Seconds.

Reminder of the annual NTRFC fireworks night next on Friday, November 1.
