LAST weekend at the Cornwall Tournament, held in Launceston, Queens Badminton Club was well-represented in several age groups. Notably, three sets of siblings performed admirably.
William Teale won the Under 14 Boys Singles (playing above his age group) before going on to win the Under 14 Boys Doubles with his brother, Oliver Teale.
Rhianna Beel also played up an age group and performed well in the Under 14 Girls Singles, competing alongside fellow Queens player, Izzy O’Calloghan but unfortunately neither won at the group stage, both losing to an experienced County Cornwall player.
Aaron Beel and Oliver Teale both shone in the Under 16 Boys Singles, winning their groups and then playing each other in the final.
It was a point-by-point thriller all the way through, Aaron finally edging it, winning 21-19.
Together, they also played in the Under 16 Boys Doubles, a slim defeat of 18-21 in the last match, denying them overall victory.
Eleanor O’Calloghan was “on fire”, winning the Under 16 Girls Singles easily, not allowing any of her opponents a chance to get their scorelines into double figures. She then continued her winning streak by pairing up with sister, Izzy to take the Under 16 Girls Doubles title too.
