OLLIE Knight, a talented 15-year-old left-handed pace bowler, from Sandford, is hoping to represent Devon County Under 15s during a thrilling 17-day cricket tour of South Africa, in October 2024.
Ollie, who has been part of the Devon Squad for the past four years, also showcases his skills in both the junior and men's teams playing for his local side, Sandford Cricket Club.
Ollie's cricket journey began at an early age and his dedication and passion for the sport have been evident in his performance on the field, earning him a well-deserved place in the Devon Squad.
His selection for the South Africa tour is a testament to his skills, hard work and commitment to cricket.
Representing both Sandford Cricket Club and Devon County Under 15s is a source of immense pride for Ollie and his family.
This tour is an opportunity for him to showcase his skills on an international stage and bring recognition to his home club in Sandford.
Ollie will be joining his team mates on an exciting journey filled with challenging matches and cultural experiences in South Africa.
To make his dream a reality, he is currently fundraising to help cover the costs associated with the tour.
The total cost is more than £3,000 which includes all travel, accommodation and other essential needs for the duration of the trip.
Special playing shirts are also provided and then donated to under-privileged players in South Africa at the end of the tour.
In a bid to support Ollie, local businesses and organisations are being encouraged to explore programme sponsorship opportunities, presenting them with a chance to gain exposure both before and during the tour.
Ollie expresses his gratitude to the local Sandford and Crediton community and businesses who have already pledged sponsorship saying: "I am so excited to have this opportunity to represent Devon and my home team Sandford Cricket Club by going on tour in South Africa.
“It's a dream come true for me and I am so grateful for the amazing support I have received so far. I am looking forward to playing a lot of cricket and making everybody proud."
For any businesses or individuals who know Ollie and his family, and are interested in hearing more about his story, or would like to support his fundraising cause, Ollie's family have set up a crowdfunding page, which can be found by visiting: Help Ollie represent Devon cricket in South Africa (https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/help-ollie-represent-devon-cricket-in-south-africa )
There are also advertising opportunities available in the official tour programme, which gets circulated to cricket clubs across Devon.
The support received will not only contribute towards Ollie's success, but also enhance a business's brand visibility within the wider Devon community.
