Whipton and Pinhoe 0 Sandford 3
AFTER a fortnight since their last match because of the weather, Sandford AFC first XI were back in action on Saturday at the Exeter Arena.
This time, their opponents were Whipton and Pinhoe.
On a bright sunny afternoon, Sandford kicked off and after three minutes Pinhoe made the first attempt at goal which came to nothing.
Sandford then had a chance which was saved, then a through ball gave the home side a goal but was ruled offside.
Sandford were now beginning to get more chances and in the 23rd minute Keiron Stanbury headed over from a corner.
Four minutes later Sandford keeper Charles Headley made two brilliant saves to keep the score at 0-0.
Just as halftime was approaching, Sandford forward Matt Baker put Sandford into a deserved lead.
Just before the whistle, a Whipton player was shown a red card for foul and abusive language towards the referee.
The second half therefore saw Whipton and Pinhoe kick off with 10 men.
In the 65th minute, substitute Abe Dellamuro came on at left full back and scored from a corner to make it 2-0 to Sandford.
A few minutes later, midfielder Ryan Trump got his reward with Sandford’s third goal.
Unfortunately, in the 67th minute captain Sam Reeves was sin-binned for questioning the referee's decision after being held in a tackle.
Towards the end, Keiron Stanbury, playing with a head injury, scuffed what was a certain goal.
At the final whistle, the score stood at Whipton and Pinhoe 0-3 Sandford.
All the Sandford team had brilliant games but the man of the match for me was Ryan Trump. Well done to all.
Next Saturday's fixture hasn't been decided yet by the league because of the damage to the Sandford pavilion.
