CREDITON UNITED 1 - BISHOPS LYDEARD 0
CREDITON United FC just shaded this fierce South West Peninsula League East battle against their visitors from West Somerset with a magnificent goal scored by Docteur Silly midway through the first half and what a goal it was.
Picking up the ball just outside the penalty area he hit it first time and the ball flew into the top right corner with the goalie stranded.
This must have warmed the heart of the newcomer who till now did not look like scoring this type of goal.
Only a couple of minutes earlier he had been denied a goal by a dubious offside flag.
There was a return for Louis Morrison at the back and he played extremely well, exhibiting his love for the long diagonal ball.
There was also a start for young Max Metherell in midfield and his tigerish play was a joy to behold.
It was a competitive game as the Bishops played their part in a game that in truth could have gone either way.
Chances came at both ends and it was Crediton who looked the more likely but the away side had their chances also and Ethan Chalk was called upon on several occasions.
Dave Lee was at his imperious best in the centre of defence but on one slip nearly let in a Bishops striker but his effort was well saved by Ethan.
The league this year is split into two distinct halves and this could be due to the lack of chances not being finished off by the bottom teams.
With one or two exceptions almost all the sides seem capable of competing tigerishly for the ball but often do not look like scoring except if there is a mistake from the opposing team.
This was true at the Bishops Lydeard game and as I said, it was one moment of magic from the good Docteur that won the game for Crediton although the result was often in doubt as Bishops matched Crediton in all other areas apart from having a clinical finisher.
Anyway, another good win for the home side and as there is no game on Saturday we now await the visit of Bridport in a couple of weeks time. Crediton are 8th in the table at this point.
Crediton team: Chalk, Burwood, Woodman, Lee, Morrison, Metherell, Silly, Bond, Ord, White and Stapleton.
Man of the Match: Dave Lee.
