LAST weekend saw the weather intervene again for Sandford Cricket Club on Saturday with the Seconds/Thirds XI match against Alphington and Countess Wear Select XI cancelled due to the waterlogged ground.

However, things brightened for the Sunday when our First XI played Midsomer Norton in the first round of the National Cup.

In the end a comfortable victory was achieved as Sandford bowled first and bowled the opposition out for 106 in 26.5 overs with Harrison Jones starring with both bat and ball finishing with a five for, and then following up with 34 not out to see Sandford home by six wickets in their score of 107 for four in 31.3 overs.

Sandford now move onto the second round with yet another home game against Paignton at Creedy Park on Sunday, May 11, 1pm start.

During the previous week the Development XI made an early season visit to Cheriton Fitzpaine and narrowly lost by one run, it gave some youngsters a chance to shine which can only be to the benefit of the Club in the longer term.

As I advised last week, the firsts start their Devon League programme this coming Saturday at home to local rivals, Exeter, 12.30pm start. The Seconds travel to Seaton for a 12.30pm start and the Thirds trek to North Devon to play their Thirds, 1pm start. Best of luck to the teams.

I won't be able to submit any reports for these games until two weeks time, by which time another round of games will have been played with the Firsts travelling to Plymouth, and the Seconds and Thirds at home to Exeter Seconds and Exwick Seconds respectively, both with a 1pm start.

On the Sunday the Firsts will be entertaining Paignton in the second round of the National Cup with a 1pm start.
