HEART of Devon Swords fencing club greets the New Year with combined training for competitive fencers and beginners at Lords Meadow Leisure Centre in Crediton. 

Jason Ball, coach, explained: "The county and regional championships are just weeks away, so we have extra sparring workshops for experienced fencers plus a beginner course that starts on January 6."

Looking ahead to Devon's junior championships on January 21, hopes are high at Heart of Devon for county medals at each age groups from under 9s to under 17s.

Jason added: "Excellent performances wrapped up 2023. Jojo Yang represented the South West in the Cadet Winton Tournament, helping the team to take second place out of five regions.

"Success at the Dart Sabre tournament, hosted in Totnes, saw Jojo Yang take Gold in the under 17s group and Oliver Martin earned Silver in the under 10s."

The club was established in Crediton in 2022.
