IN last week’s issue of the “Crediton Courier” you read that the Ladies Fours had reached the National Finals to be played next month at Leamington Spa.
Being a part of this quartet was obviously not enough for Liz Smerdon as she has now qualified in her own right for the Ladies Singles and also with Joan Martin for the Over 55 Pairs.
I’m not going to embarrass Liz further by including another photo of her this week but for those who are interested just look back at the last two previous copies of the “Courier!”
The Crediton Ladies Yellow team recently played their league match at home to Seaton Blue.
The ladies play in the local league, which includes Crediton Green and has 10 teams who play each other throughout the season. Our visitors were not feeling very charitable on this day and left with a 6-0 victory.
The Men’s Over 60’s A team would have been very disappointed to get an 8-0 drubbing away to Seaton A.
With this defeat any chances of regaining their title could have evaporated if it had not been for the fact that their closest rivals, Topsham A, were also losing on the same day.
Topsham are still three points ahead but it could all come down to the home fixture between the two teams next month.
The B team had a comfortable victory over Madeira C by 8-0 and remain fourth. The C team are up to third after a very impressive 8-0 victory over Tiverton West End C.
In the Thursday evening Exeter and District League, the A team top Division One with 44 points and the B team are fourth out of six with 20 points.
In Division Two the C team are second with 35 points but it is interesting to note that the team in first place has 38 points and that the bottom side has 27 points so all to play for.
Mixed outcomes for the friendly teams this weekend against two Bideford clubs. On Saturday Crediton played host to Bideford Strand and ran out 110-88 winners.
The trip to Bideford Victoria Park did not prove so successful as even though the rinks were shared 3-3 on shots our hosts won by 104-74.
