Newton Abbot Seconds 10 - Crediton Quins 55

BY their own standards, the Crediton Quins will know they were not at their best but were more than good enough for a spirited Newton Abbot team.

To come away with a nine-try victory at Rackerhayes was nonetheless a great way to start 2025.

We were a bit slow in getting going but a couple of tries from centre Sam Westcott and one from winger Callum Yeandle gave us a comfortable interval lead of 21-5.

Conditions were difficult for running rugby and an ankle injury to Westcott forced him out of the game took away a major attacking threat.

However, the second half we crossed the whitewash on another six occasions whilst the hosts crossed over once.

Callum Yeandle completed a try hat-trick with Westcott and Chris Hooper adding two apiece and there was one from Freddie Borthen and Ben Baxter. James Dodge landed five conversions.

On Saturday the Quins will face probably their toughest opponents of the season, our near neighbours North Tawton will be the visitors.

They are the only side to get the better of us with a 13-0 victory back in October and they have crept into contention almost unnoticed.

They took the scalp of second placed New Cross last Saturday and will be no soft touch as we have already found.
