NEW volunteers are being sought to help tell Bible stories at Hayward’s Primary School.
The team meets around six times a term to either record a dramatised version of the story or, once every half-term, act it out in person at the school.
“This initiative... is a vital way in which today’s youngsters can get to hear the key stories from both Old and New Testaments,” said Peter Bunn.
“The purpose is very much to enable the children to become familiar with Bible stories; the story has a short top and tail reflection associated with it and then the children are invited, if they wish, to join in a short prayer by saying “amen” to it.
“We are emphatically not trying to proselytise – an important reason why the model for the initiative has been popular in so many schools, not just church schools, as well as with Ofsted. We also hope to extend coverage to Yeoford.
“Nearly all sessions produce a few laughs when we make mistakes in practice! Nor is a sharp memory for lines needed; we generally all have scripts in hand.
“What is important is having enthusiasm for this key piece of outreach in telling the Bible story.”
Recordings and practices for the in-person sessions take place on Tuesdays at 9.30am and the sessions in school are at Friday lunchtime.
