SARAH Holmes, the Transport Co-ordinator for the Crediton office of Mid Devon Mobility, formerly Crediton Community Transport, is appealing to car owners in Crediton, Lapford, Wembworthy, Morchard Bishop, and Cheriton Bishop who have time to spare and would like to do something worthwhile for their community.
Sarah explained: “We provide transport for a local group of adults with learning and/or physical disabilities who attend The Rowell Centre at the Congregational Church in Crediton.
“They meet every Monday to Thursday from 10am until 3pm.
“We desperately need volunteer car drivers to join our team, using their own car, to take clients to the centre in the morning and home in the afternoon.
“Attendance at the centre helps their well-being, enables them to build friendships and learn new skills, and of course provides their parents and carers with an opportunity to relax, knowing their loved one is being cared for in a safe and nurturing environment.
“Even if you can only offer one morning or afternoon per week, or even once a month, it would help us enormously – though of course if you can do more, that would be most welcome.
“Expenses are paid at the HMRC approved rate (currently 45p/mile) from leaving home until you get back.
“Expenses are paid monthly in arrears, after submission of a record sheet. You will not have to handle cash. Full details will be given on collection times and addresses.
“The application process is straightforward. There is a simple form to fill in online, or it can be posted to you.
“You pay a visit to our office in Market Street, Crediton for a chat, a scan of your driving licence, passport and/or utility bill. We will complete a DBS and you will be ready to help someone near you.”
For further information, please telephone Sarah on 01363 773303. The office is open from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Thursday.
