EMERGENCY services rushed to Blagdon, Crediton, following a serious collision earlier this evening (Saturday, September 5) involving a cyclist and a car.

The cyclist had been travelling down Jockey Hill and it is believed that the cycle collided with the car which was approaching the roundabout at the bottom of Jockey Hill from the Mill Street area.

The collision is believed to have occurred just before 6.30pm.

The male cyclist, who was travelling with a friend after watching cricket at Sandford Cricket Club, was seriously injured.

Land ambulances as well as a doctor in another vehicle attended.

The Dorset Air Ambulance attended because both of the Devon Air Ambulances were already in use. It landed in Newcombes Meadow.

Paramedics from the Air Ambulance assisted at the scene.

Local people diverted traffic and an off-duty nurse assisted the patient until the arrival of the emergency services.

The road was closed to traffic, a temporary diversion put in place.

A land ambulance transferred the injured cyclist to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
