AS part of the National Lottery Open Week, Crediton Library will be offering a free event for National Lottery players that is linked to the Reminiscence Project.
Open Week celebrates the National Lottery’s 30th year, saying thank you to players for the £30million they raise for good causes every week.
The Reminiscence Project, which aims to collect and preserve memories of Crediton and the surrounding areas, is one of the many projects that has received funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The event will be held on Friday, March 15 at 6pm. There will be a talk about the project, a chance to look at some of the library’s local history collection and resources as well as some light refreshments.
Project Co-ordinator, Izzy FitzGerald said: “Thanks to National Lottery funding, we have been able to recruit a pool of wonderful volunteers to work on the project, some of whom go out and interview people about their memories in their own homes and at the library.
"Meanwhile, others transcribe those interviews carefully, capturing the voices of interviewees in writing to make the collection more accessible. We are storing these memories digitally online, where everyone can access them.
“This March, we are also launching a monthly Reminiscence Group at the library, which will involve chatting about people’s memories around a particular theme. We will be starting off on Friday, March 8 with the theme of Spring.”
To book a place at this free event, National Lottery players can book their ticket online or via the library.
On the day, they will need to show their National Lottery ticket, Scratchcard or Instant Win Game.
Crediton Library can be contacted via email: [email protected] or telephone: 01363 772578.
The event will be followed by a free session with Museum of Dartmoor Life curator, Kristy Turner, from 7pm.
Attendees are welcome to stay. Funded by the National Grid Community Matters Fund, this session is part of the National Warm Spaces initiative, helping to combat fuel poverty.
