AGE Concern Crediton, which exists to tackle loneliness and isolation and to support independent living for older people within the Crediton and District area has temporarily closed its services and activities held at the Lady Mills Centre in Deep Lane, Crediton.

The charity says that demand for its services continues to increase, in a continuing challenging environment.

Its Board of Trustees have agreed to embark on a significant restructuring plan, aimed at improving financial stability and increasing impact and reach, with a focus on sustainable growth, an increase in accessible, integrated core services and the development of “fit for the future” systems and processes.

It says that part of this improvement plan will be a refurbishment of the Lady Mills Centre, Deep Lane.

In order to accommodate this, all services and activities held within the Centre will be paused for the required period of time, effective from Monday, April 7.

It says that the Home Support Services will not be affected, and the Coffee Mornings and Lunch Club will carry on at Homeleigh and alternative venues.

It will continue to provide its Community Club clients with assistance, including the provision and delivery of hot, home cooked meals and a telephone befriending service.

A spokesperson said: “No jobs will be at risk during this period and Centre staff will be deployed elsewhere as required. The Age Concern office will remain open as normal.

“Age Concern Crediton would like to thank all those that have supported us in the past and hope that we may count on your continued association with ACC.

“At the present time, as we work towards a successful relaunch, we are looking to extend our volunteer programme and would welcome any assistance to help reach our goals to improve the wellbeing of the elderly in Crediton and District.
