ANOTHER second-hand clothing initiative has been launched at Queen Elizabeth’s School – this time for prom season.
A committee of 24 students in year 10 are spearheading the “Pre-Loved Prom” project, which aims to help the environment and lower costs for local families by reusing donated eveningwear.
It comes under the banner of “Ecothreads”, which was launched as a pre-loved school uniform store by QE sixth-formers last autumn with the support of charity Involve Mid Devon.
Prom outfits will be loaned out for £20 with £10 refunded after they are returned in the same condition.
Johnsons Dry Cleaners is providing free dry cleaning for all the clothes in the new initiative.
“Do you have a prom dress or suit tucked away, worn once and forgotten?” a spokesperson said.
“Give it new life with Pre-Loved Prom! We’re collecting prom outfits to help our students celebrate their special night without the high cost to pockets and the planet.
“Every donation makes a difference. Let’s work together to make prom accessible, affordable and eco-friendly for everyone.
“Give another student the chance to shine and help QE make this the most sustainable prom yet!”
Involve Mid Devon Crediton Community Builder Tamlyn Fraiquin added: “Our fantastic QE students are leading this amazing project to make prom sustainable and accessible for all – but we need your help!
“Please donate suits, dresses, outfits, and accessories to help us build our stock.
“Everyone deserves the chance to attend their prom—without it costing the earth.”
You can donate dresses, suits, ties, shoes and accessories by dropping them off at QE Barnfield reception, QE Western Road reception or Crediton Library.
Donations should be clean and in decent condition. Small repairs can be made.
Monetary donations for the group to buy prom outfits online can also be made by emailing [email protected] in the first instance.
