A LOT has been said in recent weeks about the state of Mid Devon roads and I agree the potholes are terrible. However, I will never complain again about our roads.

I have just spent 12 days in  northern India which is very rural and tribal. The roads there are 10 times worse than ours! Yes, that is possible.

Cattle wander in the roads after anything they can find to eat.

These cattle do not seem to be phased by the cars, motorbikes, scooters, bicycles and tut-tuts whizzing past at high speed and blowing their horns every second or so.

Motorbikes, scooters and tut-tuts do not have rear lights in the dark and bicycles don't have lights at all.

Some roads have big potholes and many don't have “sleeping policemen”.

They have “sleeping policemen in police cars” and two together with a ditch in between. In some places there are no adopted roads just dirt tracks.  It is certainly an eye opener and makes a most uncomfortable ride.
