FOLLOWING a meeting with Mid Devon District Council, members of the St Lawrence Community Group and Sustainable Crediton have joined forces to take over planting up the flower beds on St Lawrence Green with pollinator friendly varieties.
The Green also greets visitors coming from the north and west of the county and the task force were pleased that Bert Jewell, who has experience of making our town colourful and welcoming, provided a long list of suitable plants and some valuable advice.
The existing rose bed will be retained and the rose bushes have already been pruned by Krys Dunn.
Kendra Ezekiel, a professional gardener herself, has also created a planting plan for the other two beds, incorporating perennial plants that the bees will love as well as varieties that are drought and pollution resistant.
Spring is coming so it won’t be long before the beds are planted up (Covid rules permitting!) but, since they won’t get fully established in their first year, the group will also be sowing annuals to brighten The Green this summer.
If you would like to help with the maintenance, which usually happens on a Sunday afternoon, please contact Paul Vincent on: [email protected] and, if you would like to help Kendra grow the bee friendly annuals for this year, please contact her on: [email protected] .
The aim is to make the Green something to be really proud of!
