CREDITON Hamlets Parish Council says it has contacted Devon County Council (DCC) on numerous occasions raising concern about lack of appropriate signage and white line markings at Fordton Cross.
The crossroads, which are situated half-a-mile from Crediton Station, give priority to vehicles travelling to/from the Tedburn St Mary direction, with vehicles from Hookway or Whitestone required to give way.
However the road markings have been worn to be barely visible and there is an absence of “Give Way” signs which should give adequate warning to drivers.
The council adds that current signage is misleading.
It says that on the approach from Venny Tedburn the signage indicates that the crossroads priority is straight on towards Hookway, potentially causing dangerous manoeuvres.

Travelling from Crediton the signage gives no indication of priority, and there is no signage at all when approaching the junction from either Hookway or Whitestone either to warn of the approach to a crossroads or to warn drivers that they need to give way.
Councillors have expressed disappointment at the lack of response from the DCC Highways department, who have failed to engage with the Parish Council to resolve the matter.
One parishioner said: “At times the junction can be very dangerous, particularly when drivers who are not familiar with the junction approach.
“It also appears that more and more traffic is diverted on this road via navigation systems when there are accidents or holdups.
“This means more drivers unfamiliar with the area haven’t got a clue who has right of way”.
Chairman of Crediton Hamlets Parish Council, John Stephens said: “There have already been collisions at the junction, and it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured”.
Parish Councillors continue to raise the matter regularly with the Highways department and encourage anyone who has had a near miss or collision at the junction to contact Devon Highways and the Parish Council.
