A NEW sensory room has been officially opened at Lapford Community Primary School.
Previously a storage cupboard, it features low lighting, a padded keyboard which makes sounds when pushed, objects with different textures, a tube with colourful moving lights and more.

Ten of the 50 pupils at the rural school have SEND (special educational needs and disabilities). The new room can be used by children with or without SEND.

In future, other schools belonging to Chulmleigh Academy Trust, of which Lapford Community Primary School is part, and the wider community will be able to use the space.

Pupils said the sensory room was “nice and relaxing” and made them feel “calm”.

It was funded by £7,200 from children’s charity Wooden Spoon and £2,000 from the Friends of Lapford School.
