A former manager at clothing shop Next, owner Lisa Tarr taught herself how to make and decorate cakes at home watching YouTube videos.

She told the Courier she came up with the name for the business after a loved one left her a sum of money.

"I've got three girls and I used to say to the girls, guess who's up in the stars? And I thought Twinkle Little Tarr was really good because the person that left me the money's up there."

Ms Tarr began supplying cakes to a local farm shop and garden centres and teaching cake-decorating from home, and has now decided to open her very first shop.

“Everything in the shop is baking-related, it's all within the theme of what I do,” she said.

“I had one course, but everything else is just self-taught.

“We do cakes to order, anything from birthdays to weddings to christenings, to catering for functions, wakes.”

Ms Tarr offers fresh brownies, cakes and treats for sale in the shop handmade by herself at home every day in a registered kitchen.

Ms Tarr also offers children’s cake-decorating parties.

“You bring your children, we discuss the theme beforehand,” she explained.

“Say you like space, I would create some toppers, and then the kids would come andmake these and take the cakes away with them, all fully decorated.

“Kids love it, because it's so hands-on. It's like Play-Doh.”

The shop can also be hired for private themed parties.

"It's your party, your way. Whatever your theme is, it would be decorated for you. You might just have afternoon tea, or you might want some different cakes and then it would all be laid up.

“Teas and coffees and everything would be included.”

Twinkle Little Tarr is located at 5 Crediton High Street.
