CENTRAL Devon MP and Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Mel Stride visited Thorverton recently for a meeting with Mid Devon District Councillors Rhys Roberts (Cadbury) and Polly Colthorpe (Way).
The trio discussed a number of local issues and were joined for part of the meeting by Parish Councillors Jan Wills, Claire Heaven-Roberts and Bry Uglow.
Cllr Wills explained how the Parish Council had agreed to explore the creation of a Community Land Trust (CLT) which would oversee the building of a number of affordable homes within the village to be let to people with a local connection.
Cllr Roberts explained: “It is very much at the early stages but I asked Mel to come to Thorverton to get an idea of what the parish council is trying to do after identifying a need for affordable housing in the village.”
Mr Stride said: “CLTs are a great way for communities to deliver affordable homes for local families. Plans to establish one here in Thorverton are potentially very exciting.”
