HUNDREDS of people, estimated at more than 700, filled Crediton’s Town Square earlier this evening, Friday, December 23, when Crediton Town Band hosted its annual Christmas Carols in the Square.
From 7pm to 8pm, the talented Crediton Town Band led the 6th annual Community Carol Singing event in the Town Square.
Last year it proved to be a really fantastic festive occasion, with everyone singing along to the carols but this evening’s event was certainly the most well attended since the tradition began.
Everyone dressed up warmly and fortunately the weather was not too cold and it stayed dry and everyone enjoyed getting together.
Paul Evans led the singing and acted as MC with the carols and commentary signed by Lesley Rogers.
Later in the evening members of the public were invited to “have-a-go” at signing.
Band members looked festive in Santa hats and everyone admired the Christmas in Crediton committee big tree and lights around the Town Square.
Among the Christmas carols they played for people singing were: “Away in a Manger”, “Good King Wenceslas”, “Hark! the Herald Angels Sing”, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”, “We wish you a Merry Christmas” and many more.
Service sheets were available for a donation to The Turning Tides Project and Crediton Town Band, donations collected by volunteers from the Rotary Club of Crediton Boniface.
The Lions Club of Crediton volunteers acted as marshals and Ernest Jackson and Co printed the programmes.
The Turning Tides Project band and singers sang two songs “Turn on the Lights” and “A Melosmatic Christmas”.
The evening proved a really special festive family occasion and with support from singers from CODS, the public really enjoyed singing along.
