WHAT a one-sided letter about Israel/Palestine from Jean Hope (“Crediton Courier”, June 27)
Jean failed to mention:
Over 700,000 Palestinian people were evicted from their homes and livelihoods when the state of Israel was created.
Many of these people are still in refugee camps.
Much Palestinian land in the occupied territory of the West Bank has been appropriated by illegal Israeli settlements; olive groves and other means of living for Palestinians have been destroyed.
The thousands of Palestinian and Arab people living in Israel are treated as second class citizens.
Gaza has been crippled by a long-standing blockade, stopping essential supplies getting in.
Check points and the dividing wall have made life intolerable for Palestinian people and many young people have been shot or imprisoned when reacting to this.
The dreadful events of October 7 did not happen in a vacuum. As always, violence begets more violence and hatred escalates.
It is also worth mentioning that Hamas is the elected government of Gaza responsible for hospitals, etc.
We should continue speaking out about the genocidal bombing and destruction currently happening in Gaza and the continued persecution of Palestinian people in the West Bank and support those marching to demand an immediate ceasefire and an end to the UK supply of weapons to Israel.
