TEAMS of four are needed at Fingle Glen golf course near Tedburn St Mary to help raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

The day is being organised by 48 years-old Tedburn mum, Julie Knight, who was diagnosed with cervical cancer four years ago, had three major operations and six months' chemotherapy.

Julie is chairman of the team who organise the Relay for Life at Tedburn, the 24-hour event to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

This year's event will be on July 4, the day after the golf challenge.

Each member of the golf team will pay £40 for the 18 holes plus a meal. "It does not matter if you are not a very good golfer, there is no stipulation," said Julie.

She is housekeeper at Fingle Glen, looking after the needs of the hotel and golf chalets, as well as a fitness instructor and has been a personal trainer for four years.

She is a qualified squash coach, still plays squash for Devon and has been a referee for men's football in the Peninsular East League. So far as she knows, she is one of only two women referees in Devon.
