THE last two free events in this year’s Warm Winter programme, organised by The Folklore Library and Archive and hosted in Crediton Library, are taking place in March, and you will need to book ahead to guarantee a place!
First up, on Friday, March 14, at 7pm, historian and writer Tracey Norman will give an illustrated presentation based on her Amazon #1 bestselling book Dark Folklore.
Looking at the subjects of church folklore and urban legends, this talk will examine some of the stories that we hear told as true that might not be all that they seem, or might appear too good to be true.
Tracey will also discuss some of the strange and unusual objects and carvings that we find in our churches which might seem out of place or unusual.
The programme will be rounded off on Friday, March 28, at 7pm, with a one-off harp concert given by world-renowned professional harpist Elizabeth-Jane Baldry.
In a performance which has never been seen in Crediton before, Elizabeth-Jane will provide a live harp accompaniment of her own composition to a screening of the 1924 silent movie version of Peter Pan.
The musical score is one of a number composed by Elizabeth-Jane to accompany silent movies, which she has performed in venues all over the world, and this is a rare opportunity to see her play in Crediton.
Seats for both events are free, and there will be free hot drinks and other refreshments available.
To guarantee a seat, pre-booking is essential – by emailing [email protected], calling into Crediton Library or telephoning 01363 772578.
The Folklore Library and Archive Warm Winter programme has been funded by a grant from the Mid Devon Council Growing Communities Fund.
The programme has featured music, film screenings, talks and other events.
