CALLING all children in Crediton and the surrounding area.
On Sunday, June 9, The Big Boniface Bash is happening in Newcombes Meadow in Crediton, beginning at 12 noon.
It promises to be a fun event with lots to see and do.
Bridget Merrett, one of the event helpers, is appealing to children to go along and take part.
She explained: “We want as many children as possible to come along dressed as Christmas trees which is a gloriously crazy thing to do in JUNE.
“Meet at the Christmas tree in the park just before 12 ready to join the parade.”
She added that it was because of the tale of St Boniface cutting down Thor’s Oak, from which a small spruce tree grew, that the story of fir trees being decorated began.
Prince Albert brought the tradition to the UK.
She added: “Come dressed up as a Christmas tree, tinsels, baubles, tree decorations etc.”
