MORCHARD Bishop Church of England Primary School hosted a visit from local MP and Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Mel Stride on Friday, July 7.
Headteacher Sam Butler, who joined the school in September 2022, briefed Mr Stride on recent changes at the school, with the school’s conversion to an academy in 2021 and a new staffing team now in place for this academic year.
The school has also been successful in securing a major government grant for an overhaul of its heating system, with the work due to take place over the summer holidays.
Mr Butler said: “It was great to welcome Mel to Morchard Bishop Primary School and fill him in with some of the exciting changes that have taken place at the school in the past few months.
"We are delighted with our Condition Improvement Funding grant – the work will mostly be done during the summer break to minimise disruption and the result will be significant financial savings and a much reduced carbon footprint.”
Mr Stride added: “It was great to sit down with Sam and hear about the positive changes at the school this year, and learn more about their chosen values of Resilience, Integrity, Empathy, Curiosity, Dignity and Respect.
"It was also useful to gain direct feedback on their recent Ofsted Inspection.”
