The 2023 event was unable to take place due to circumstances beyond the control of the organising committee.

In 2022, at the 31st annual match held at Shobrooke, wet weather during the night softened the ground which resulted in perfect ploughing conditions for the 56 competitors taking part.

The Mid Devon Club and match was started 33 years ago by the late Bonzo Moyes of Bow, Eddie Vigers taking over the role of chairman of the organisation from him about eight years ago.

Eddie’s daughter, Fiona Mortimer is match secretary and wife of George who has given permission for the field to be used for the match this year.

In 2022 £500 was presented by the Ploughing Club to Devon Air Ambulance.

Just moments before the presentation, a Devon Air Ambulance flew over the area from the Cheriton Fitzpaine direction.

On Thursday, October 3, this year, a Devon Air Ambulance landed near Butt Parks, Crediton, in view of the committee members marking out the ploughing plots for those taking in Saturday’s competition.

Again this year, the club will be raising funds for Devon Air Ambulance.
