IT was a night to remember in Sandford Parish Hall on Saturday, October 12, as nearly 200 disco lovers dressed up to pack the venue for a fantastic fundraiser.

Local band LurvGroove treated the crowd to two hours of non-stop, classic '70s hits, raising more than £1,500 for Sandford School to be spent on play equipment for the Key Stage 1 playground.

The evening saw the dance floor come alive with timeless tracks from Earth, Wind and Fire, the Bee Gees, ABBA, Chic, and Gloria Gaynor plus many others.

The event was organised by FOSS – the Friends of Sandford School – who set up and sold all the tickets, ran the bar for the evening, and promoted the night in the weeks before, putting up posters and marketing the event in the Courier and on Facebook.

Headteacher Hannah Fee praised the evening, saying: “It was an amazing night for everyone. The atmosphere was fantastic, and we’re so grateful for the support that will go a long way to help develop our playground at the school.”

LurvGroove—previously known as The Lurv Handles—has been a fixture in the Crediton area since its debut in 1997, raising money for a variety of local causes.

The band consists of Perdie Geering (vocals), Mike Langhorne (guitar/bass), Richard Tuckett (drums), and Andy Hitchcock (keyboards).

Jo Ward provided the light show with assistance from Barnaby Geering – and the powerful sound system and PA was run by Dave James.

Mike Langhorne, the band’s leader, was thrilled with the event’s success, saying: “It was great fun! We were so pleased that people really came out to support Sandford School. Seeing everyone dancing, smiling, and singing along made the whole thing worthwhile.”

With such a successful event, people are already talking about the possibility of another big night with LurvGroove.

If October 12’s performance was any indication, the band won’t be putting away their disco ball anytime soon!
