MEMBERS of Newton St Cyres Art Club were happy to welcome well-known contemporary artist and print maker Luna North, who lives on Exmoor, to demonstrate some of her techniques in acrylics at our meeting on July 28.
She rejoices in her natural surroundings, and makes contemporary prints and paintings of the landscape, sea views, and wildflowers.
Her style is lively and fresh, using a limited palette which ensures a balance between pastel light colours and earth colours to “hold” them.
Flowers in the foreground are often enlarged, and perspective is of minor concern as the landscape beyond unfolds in fluid lines and shapes.
She uses sketches made outdoors as well as photos, but emphasised the importance of observing closely and feeling the emotion of a scene in order to retain a clear memory of it.
She communicated her enthusiasm and passion, as well as her knowledge and experience, with warmth and humour, giving us plenty of inspiration and practical advice.
